This week the year 1's have been learning to partition (split) numbers into two parts to understand its value. In literacy we have been choosing and thinking of rhyming words, and used a poem to spot rhyming words. The children have thought of their own adjectives to change part of this poem.
In phonics we have learnt the alternate spellings; ay, ea, ou, oy, ir, ie, ue.
In topic we have continued to design placemats and coasters for our tea party, aswell as finish the shading on our party hats.
We have had a fantastic first week in Clever Crocs!
Our new topic is 'Do tigers drink tea?' We have read the story 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' story. We have created our own tea party lists and read many tiger books. The children have loved exploring their new provision, which has included a tea party role play area and living room small world area, with a tiger!
In Maths we have been focusing on teen numbers (15, 16, 17, 18, etc) and twenties numbers (21, 22, 23, etc). We are beginning our unit on place value which will include recognising all numbers to 100!
In phonics we have recapped our phase 3 sounds (ai, ee, igh, oa, etc) and begun to look at vowels (a, e, i, o, u). We will continue practising reading a variety of words.
As part of our topic, we have done some colour mixing (orange), made collage tiger faces and even had a trip to the local cafe to help inspire our writing during the term.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
