Welcome to the Smarties class page!

 

Here we will be updating you with curriculum details, photo's and information relating to our class.

 

 

 

This week in Smarties the children have been exploring floating and sinking. The children took it in turns to select an object from a basket to put in the water to see whether it would float or sink.
This week in Smarties the children have enjoyed exploring the farmers market role play outside. The have dug for potatoes, beetroot and carrots, used the weighing scales and filled their baskets. They have also looked at the snails we have been keeping, taking it in turns to hold them and talk about them.
This week in Smarties the older children have enjoyed their transition to Foundation One. The younger children have enjoyed meeting their new classmates who will join them in September.
This week in Smarties the children have been telling us all about their holidays for show and tell. The children have also planted a sunflower seed each. They are looking forward to watering their sunflowers and watching them grow.
This week in Smarties the children took part in a sponsored penalty shoot out with Barnsley FC. The children enjoyed scoring lots of goals!
This week in Smarties the children have enjoyed tasting different varieties of exotic fruits from the story 'Handa's Surprise'. Ask your child which fruit they liked the best!
This week in Smarties we have enjoyed showing the children different ways to mark make using a variety of materials. The snakes the children made last week are now on display in Smarties classroom, come and take a look at your child's work!

This week in Smarties the children have enjoyed accessing the number focus table. We have also had lots of opportunities for outdoor play thanks to the dry weather! Here are some photos of Smarties children exploring our outdoor area.

 

This week in Smarties the children have enjoyed exploring our jungle role play corner. The children have also made snakes out of pasta.
This week in Smarties we have been focusing on jungle animals. Our story of the week has been 'Rumble in the Jungle'. The children have enjoyed talking about the different kinds of animals who live in the jungle. The children have also participated in a group sewing activity, using their fine motor skills to stitch and thread beads.
This week in Smarties our focus has been 'The Gingerbread Man'. Children have each decorated a gingerbread man to take home. Children have enjoyed exploring the focus table, recalling the story and using the masks and other props.
This week in Smarties we have welcomed new children. We have been focusing on nursery rhymes, the children have enjoyed exploring the nursery rhyme corner and singing at carpet time. 
This week in Smarties we have been learning about oral hygiene. Each child has been given a toothbrush and toothpaste to take home. A big thank you to all parents who helped by donating prizes, buying buns and raffle tickets to help our fundraising efforts.
This week in Smarties the children have been decorating Easter pots ready for chocolate eggs! We have also celebrated World Book Day, children and staff came to school dressed in pyjamas and brought their favourite story to share with the class. We have also taken part in Science Week with a colours experiment. After last week's story (Dear Zoo) we wrote a letter to the zoo to ask them to send us a pet. Each day a parcel has arrived with a different animal inside, the children have worked very hard to recall the story.
This week in Smarties the children have enjoyed playing in the snow. Afterwards, we all had a yummy hot chocolate to warm us up. Ella brought in some eggs from her ducks at home, the children were especially intrigued by the black egg! 
This week in Smarties, we joined F1 children for a road safety talk and demonstration. The children took turns to use the zebra crossing. We have also tasted Chinese food. The children enjoyed trying noodles, rice, sweet chili sauce and prawn crackers.
This week in Smarties we have been looking at ice. The children enjoyed pouring warm water onto the ice blocks to melt them and free the trapped snowy animals! We have also tasted pancakes with jam and chocolate spread, the children really enjoyed their treat!
This week in Smarties, our story has been 'Elmer'. We have been focusing on recognising colours. You could take time at home with your child looking at and naming colours.
This week in Smarties the children enjoyed a visit from Beat Baby. The children clapped a beat and sang a special song to wake Beat Baby up. Each child had the opportunity to hold and tickle Beat Baby. Have a look at the pictures on our display board! 
This week in Smarties we have been talking about Winter. The children have looked at ice and snow. The children have enjoyed exploring our Winter Wonderland role play corner and playing in the fake snow with the snowy animals. The children also enjoyed a 'Move and Make Music' session.
This week in Smarties we have welcomed some new children and settled back in after the Christmas break. The children have been looking at snowy pictures and have used white paint and glitter to create their own.
This week in Smarties we have enjoyed lots of Christmas fun! The children enjoyed their Christmas party and a visit from Father Christmas! Merry Christmas from Smarties staff!
This week in Smarties the children have made Christmas collages using scissors, glue, glitter and shiny paper. They have also enjoyed tasting Christmas cake and cheese.
This week in Smarties the children have each made a Christmas card. They have also enjoyed exploring our Christmas role play area and decorating the Christmas tree on our atelier table.
This week in Smarties the children have decorated a bauble each using glue and glitter. These baubles will form our Christmas display in Smarties.
This week in Smarties the children have made bone-shaped dog treats. The children helped to weigh out the ingredients, mix the dough and cut out the bone shapes.
This week in Smarties the children have made their own fat balls to feed the birds. They then hung up the feeders and we talked about the birds we could see in our outdoor environment.
This week in Smarties we have been talking about the fireworks the children have seen. We discussed the colours they saw and the noises they heard. The children have made a class firework picture for the wall.
This week in Smarties, the children have been creative with the play dough, making their own hedgehogs using items they found on last week's nature walk.

This week in Smarties we have been for a walk in our woods. The children collected leaves and we talked about the different autumnal colours. Here are some photos of the children creating with our autumn themed play dough, walking in the woods and playing with our fire station role play.
